Frequently Asked Questions


Butts and Beans BBQ Challenge will be governed by the KCBS rules and regulations.

1. All competitors are responsible for reading and following the KCBS rules and regulations.
2. All contestants must adhere to electrical, fire, and other codes.
3. Alcoholic beverages will not be sold or given away to the general public by competitors.


No Refunds will be given.  The Butts and Beans BBQ Challenge will be held rain or shine.

Cooking spaces-Will be well defined in grass/pavement areas. Teams may arrive as early as 8 am on Friday morning.  Teams wishing to arrive earlier should call ahead of time to make sure we can get you parked on Thursday evening.  There is an event at the fairgrounds on Thursday morning and I am not sure we can get everyone in and parked but we will try.

Utilities provided-Electricity and Water will be provided but all teams will need to provide extension cords (at least 100 feet) and water hoses (at least 100 feet).  Standard 110 plug ins and 30 amp plugs available.  Please note what you will need so we can try our best to accommodate your needs.

Parking-Only one truck, used for pulling your cooker or trailer, or one camper will be allowed to park within the competition area.  We will provide two parking passes for a competitor only parking area for other vehicles.  Most spaces will be limited to 20 x 40 parking area but extra space may be provided for larger vehicles such as RVs.  Please let us know ahead of time if you will need a larger parking area.

The Contest-This event is sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS). Two KCBS representatives will be present beginning Friday morning. Judging will begin Saturday at noon. The Professional BBQ portion of the competition will consist of chicken, pork ribs, pork, and beef brisket. The Backyard BBQ portion of the contest will consist of Pork and Ribs.

Showers and restrooms-Showers and restrooms will be available at the fairgrounds.

Cooks’ Meeting-The cooks’ meeting will be held at 5 pm on Friday. The location of the cooks’ meeting will be provided when competitors arrive on Friday
